This is a festival in which many participate in memory and in honour of the fishing and salting traditions of l'Escala.
La Festa de la Sal (Salt Festival), originally celebrated the third centenary of the founding of the Alfolí de la Sal (Salt storehouse), the old storage building for the sea salt from the salt plains of Ibiza or Torrevella for distribution to the inland towns. This is a festival in which many participate in memory and in honour of the fishing and salting traditions of l'Escala, recreating the everyday life of a century ago. It includes a demonstration of craftsmanship, scenes of everyday life from the past and traditional dances... It is organized by the Arxiu Històric and the Museu de l'Anxova i de la Sal, and is a historical recreation centred on the beach of the old port of l'Escala, incorporating ancient elements of the town's cultural heritage, such as the dances of the Ball del Drac and the Farandola. In 2015 it was officially added to the Catalogue of Catalan Heritage Festivals.
It is held every year on the third Saturday of September.
This year 2024 it will be the 21 September
